What Makes TBWS Different?
Teaching Basic Writing Skills emphasizes forming a solid foundation in the skills most needed for school assignments. The focus of the program is communicating effectively with an audience. Its approach assumes that writing and thinking—and the organizational processes both involve—are tightly linked. As such, writing instruction should, above all, help students enhance their clarity and precision as they structure their ideas.
Since expository writing is an essential skill in every school subject, Teaching Basic Writing Skills is designed to be applied either systematically during structured writing instruction time or it can be applied to instruction in other content areas. For example, the activities in the program can be used to reinforce comprehension, develop test items and summarize content.
In this way, students learn to apply and appreciate writing skills as a means for accomplishing their goals instead of merely being an isolated task or assignment.
